“Why June Still Means Forever”

By Nicola Waugh, Senior Chief Editor, Sistazas Empowered Magazine

Dear Sistazas,

There’s something about June that always takes my breath away. Maybe it’s the

scent of sunlit roses, the swirl of satin gowns and sparkly veils, or the joy that

blooms when two people say, “I choose you.” Not just for a moment, but forever.

This month, we fully step into our Summer Bridal Edition, and while trends may shift

and aesthetics evolve, June remains a sacred month. It’s more than a popular

wedding month; it’s a symbol of legacy, love, and the power of intentional

beginnings.

As we gathered stories for this issue, I kept coming back to one word: covenant.

The kind of love that doesn’t just say “I do,” but whispers “I will”, through seasons,

setbacks, and sacred milestones. From brides choosing barefoot ceremonies on

beaches to couples renewing vows after 40 years, we were reminded that love

doesn’t need to be flashy; it needs to be faithful.

In these pages, you’ll find more than gowns and gift guides. You’ll see legacy in

motion. We celebrate sisters building love on solid ground. We explore wedding

traditions from across cultures, highlight Black-owned bridal designers shaping the

future, and honor the courage it takes to say “yes” to yourself before saying “yes”

to anyone else.

Whether you’re planning a wedding, reflecting on your own vows, or simply in a

season of becoming, let this issue speak to the forever in you. Let it remind you that

love, real, intentional, spirit-led love, is still worth waiting for, still worth building, still

worth believing in.

Because June isn’t just a date on the calendar, it’s a doorway. And forever still walks

through it.

With love and legacy,

Love, Legacy & Celebration

By Joanne Murray | Publisher, Sistazas Empowered Magazine

My Dearest Sistazas,

When I think of legacy, I think of the quiet power of love, the kind that builds

families, holds generations together, and whispers wisdom into the hearts of

those who follow.

This June, as we center bridal stories, summer promises, and sacred beginnings, I

invite you to pause with me, not just to admire the dresses or venues, but to

celebrate the meaning behind the moment. Because weddings aren’t just events

—they are declarations. Not only of love, but of legacy, of intention, and of the

forever we are brave enough to build.

This issue is our love letter to every bride, every believer in covenant, and every

soul who knows that marriage is more than a milestone, it’s a ministry. Whether

you’re standing at the altar or standing in your truth, this month is for you.

We honor the richness of multicultural traditions, the resilience of long-lasting

unions, and the radiance of new beginnings. We spotlight beauty with purpose,

faith with fashion, and power with poise. At Sistazas Empowered, we believe that

love should not only be celebrated but also seen, supported, and spiritually

rooted.

Let this edition remind you that your story matters, your voice is valued, and your

version of love, whatever it looks like, is worthy of honor.

Here’s to love.

Here’s to legacy.

Here’s to the celebration of forever.

With grace and gratitude,

"In Their Own Words: Engagements, Marriage & What Love Means Today"

At Sistazas Empowered, we believe our greatest wisdom resides not only in

professionals and pastors but also in everyday voices. We asked readers to

share their reflections on engagement, love, and the journey into marriage.

Here’s what they said…

“The moment he proposed, I realized love wasn’t about perfection—it was

about choosing someone daily, even when it’s not easy. Engagement taught

me how to prepare my heart, not just for the wedding.”

– Tasha D., Philadelphia, PA

“We eloped. No dress, no cake, no big ceremony. Just vows on a mountaintop

and the feeling that I’d finally come home. And five years later, I’d still choose

that same simplicity.”

– Kia & Loren J., Seattle, WA

“Our engagement lasted four years. Not because we didn’t want to marry, but

because we wanted to heal, grow, and build something real. When we did say ‘I

do,’ it wasn’t rushed. It was rooted.”

– Shawn M., Ocala, FL

“My husband and I were both previously divorced. When we met, we didn’t

plan to fall in love—we planned to co-parent. But grace had a different plan.

Blending our families has been messy, beautiful, and holy.”

– Danielle B., Tampa, FL

“Marriage isn’t a fix. It’s a mirror. It showed me everything I still needed to heal.

But it also showed me how deeply I can be loved—flaws and all.”

– Amari N., Miami, FL

Why June, Why Weddings?

The Sacred Tradition of Summer Weddings

From Ancient Roots to Aisles Today

Historically, June weddings trace back to

Roman times, when marriages in honor of

Juno, the goddess of marriage and

childbirth, were believed to bring blessings

of fertility and fortune. Farmers favored the

timing too: it allowed couples to wed after

spring planting but before the heavy work

of harvest. Even the practical became holy.

But across cultures and generations, June

held more than logistics. It carried a rhythm.

A sense of divine timing. A feeling that the

world, in full bloom, is somehow cheering

you on.

The Month Where Legacy Begins

In the Sistazas community, we know June as

more than just wedding season. It’s legacy

season. It’s when Black love stories unfold

beneath open skies. When grandmothers

pass down veils, fathers practice the perfect

spin for that first dance, and aunties pray

over marriage beds and future babies.

A Season Made for Celebration

The longer days of summer give space to

stretch joy wide, backyard BBQ

receptions, beachfront ceremonies,

garden-party bridal showers. The laughter

is louder. The colors, more vibrant. The

food, more seasoned with love and

community.

And there’s something powerful about

marrying when the earth is at its peak. As

everything grows and blossoms, so too

does the promise of love that’s just

beginning.

For the Bride, Wondering, “Why June?”

Here’s your answer: Because June is

sacred. Because joy deserves sunshine.

Because your legacy deserves a season of

its own. Because love looks good under a

vast, open sky.

When you stand beneath the warmth of

June’s light, surrounded by generations of

faith and beauty, you’re not just part of a

trend. You’re stepping into a rhythm

women before you have followed for

centuries.

So let June hold you. Let it bless your

union. Let it whisper to the wind:

“This love was always meant to bloom

here.”

By Sistazas Editorial Team

There’s something about June. Maybe it’s the way sunlight lingers longer. Or

how flowers bloom with full permission. Or maybe, just maybe, it’s because

love has always known that June is sacred ground.

For centuries, couples have chosen this golden month to exchange their

vows. But why? And what makes June weddings feel so deeply rooted in

tradition, in tenderness, and in timeless joy?

June is when sacred traditions intersect with

modern realities, when unity candles glow

beside braided hair and bold vows. When

cultural joy meets spiritual depth, it’s when

couples don’t just get married, they get

anointed.

sistazaspublishing.com

13

💍 “ARE YOU READY?”

Ready doesn’t mean perfect.

It doesn’t mean you have all the answers or

that life is neatly packaged with a bow. Ready

means you’re willing. Willing to show up.

Willing to forgive. Willing to communicate

even when you’re tired, love even when it’s

hard, and serve when it’s not convenient. It

means you’ve done the soul work, asking

yourself what kind of partner you want to be,

not just what kind you want to have.

If the answers aren’t perfect, that’s okay.

Marriage isn’t a destination; it’s a

discipleship journey. You will grow into it,

together. But readiness starts with being

honest, not just excited. Brave, not just in

love. Grounded, not just glowing.

So before the aisle, before the altar, before

the last-minute tweaks and timelines, take

a moment. Breathe. Reflect.

Because when you’re truly ready, you don’t

just say “I do.” You mean it with your whole

being.

The Real Question Every Bride (and Groom) Should Ask Before Saying ‘I Do’

You’ve picked the date, the dress, the flowers. You’ve pinned down the color palette

and maybe even the perfect playlist. But there’s one question that no checklist can

answer for you: Are you ready?

This isn’t about being ready for a party. It’s about being ready for a promise.

Getting married isn’t just about beautiful photos, sparkly rings, or planning a

stunning event. It’s about stepping into a covenant—one that will stretch you, bless

you, grow you, and sometimes break you open in ways you didn’t expect. It's about

becoming a team, one flesh, a safe place for each other’s healing and hopes.

Ask yourself:

Can I hold space for both joy and

disappointment?

Do I know how to express love and ask

for what I need?

Have I grieved my past, so I don’t bleed

it into our future?

Do I trust this person not just with my

heart, but with my faith, my fears, and

my forever?

And then ask your partner:

How do we navigate conflict?

How do we pray together, plan

together, dream together?

What does commitment look like to

you on ordinary days, not just the big

ones?

You Took My

Breath Away

A LOVE STORY WRITTEN BY GRACE

In the springtime, when flowers bloom and the earth wakes anew, so did she.

Once caught in a storm of heartache, she had nearly forgotten what it felt

like to dream. Life had taught her pain early, of rejection, of feeling unseen,

unloved, unprotected. She questioned if real love even existed. But in the

quiet moments, she still hoped. Not for a fairy tale, but for someone kind,

someone trustworthy. Someone who would see her and stay.

Then came Coach Waugh.

They met in Spring, not with sparks or

fairy dust, but with steady steps and

mutual respect. Colleagues. Friends. No

pressure. No pretense. And yet, without

even knowing it, their hearts began to

say “yes” long before their lips ever

would part.

She had once made a list, a list of what

she didn’t want. But love, it turns out,

had a better one. It sent her a native of

her own country. A man who

understood her past, honored her pain,

and loved her forward. He didn’t try to

fix her. He stood by her, supported her

pen, encouraged her dreams, and

reminded her she was always enough.

From those early days, she began to

bloom again. With his gentleness, his

patience, and his unwavering heart, he

became her safe place. The one who

wiped her tears, lifted her chin, and

helped her see herself not as broken,

but as beautiful.

He was the quiet answer to her little

girl's prayers. The man who kept his

promises. Her protector, her

encourager, her greatest blessing.

And on the day she walked down the

aisle, all he could do was gasp.

She took his breath away.

Because this wasn’t just a wedding, it

was a story coming full circle. A

testimony. A divine rewrite. Two

once-weary hearts finding each

other through grace and choosing

freely, joyfully, to walk into forever.

From pain to peace.

From sorrow to joy.

From broken to bride.

This is their love story.

And 13 years later, it’s only just

begun.

💧 Sip into Forever: Why Enagic Water Is the Summer Bridal

Gift You Didn’t Know You Needed

By Coach Waugh, Senior Chief Editor, Sistazas Empowered Magazine

Summer weddings are a celebration of new beginnings, sunlit

vows, endless laughter, and the promise of a lifetime together.

As brides plan every detail from floral arches to signature

cocktails, one gift often goes overlooked: the very water that

sustains us. In our Summer Bridal edition, we’re thrilled to

feature Rose Smith-Pederson, Seattle’s pioneering Enagic

distributor, who shows how “cellular hydration” can be an

extraordinary gift for newlyweds.

Meet Maverick: Known

nationwide as Kangen

Kitty, drinks the water

Summer weddings sparkle with joy,

warmth, and promise. From

handwritten vows to curated

playlists, every detail is chosen with

love. But amid the floral

arrangements and champagne

toasts, there’s one powerful gift

most couples overlook: water, the

one thing that nourishes the body,

fuels connection, and sustains

legacy.

This season, we’re spotlighting Rose

Smith-Pederson, a beloved Enagic

distributor from Seattle, who is

helping brides and grooms embrace

cellular hydration as a gift of

wellness, longevity, and love that

extends well beyond the wedding

day.

💦 A Gift That Lasts a Lifetime

While most registries overflow with
